Hi There DarC and Say A LIttle Prayer

Well once again I'm blocked from commenting. They ask me for my google account, I give it to them.  They ask for my password and I'm told forget it.  I can even sign in to my google account and then try to comment and I'm told my password isn't my password and to forget it.

So here's what I wanted to say. Hey there girlfriend, when I read the title of your post, I thought, Holy Crap, she's going to come away with five chicken, ten goats, a few sheep and a mule.  I know that I can't resist a baby anything.  I think you did great.

Ok now for the next bit. I've been reading all about the nasty weather out west.  Try this on, we're going to have a heat index of 110 tomorrow with 90% humidity and code red air. I have a tiny baby foal, who I'm going to have to cool down if I want her to live. I don't know what to do, so she and her mother are going to be kept in the stall with the fan on and hosed down twice. I can only hope this will be enough.  In the long and short of it, if you are not in fire zone, and it's raining, consider yourself lucky.  You could be here and dealing with what we're dealing with.  You may be bored, but at least your animals are not in danger of dieing from the heat.

  1. Hey Maia, it's going to be scorching here the next few days too. I'm planning to put mine out while I go to work, I think they'll actually be cooler, less stuffy than in the stalls. I need to get fans, I don't have any yet! Nothing like planning ahead...Their corral has shade and I dumped, scrubbed, and re-filled the trough with 70 gallons of cool fresh water. That's the best I can do.

If you do hose them down be sure to scrape off most of the water, if you leave them soaked, it can become like an insulator and make them even hotter! They say a misting fan is the best but I haven't tried it myself, I have friends whose horses love it though. I should look into how much they cost.

Weird about the commenting issue, I got two comments today, one at least from a google account. It seems like if the password was the issue you wouldn't be able to sign onto your own blog even. Odd, I hope you get it fixed soon.

  2. Odd, isn't it. I always scrape them off and only use the misting setting on the hose. If it were just Kitt, she'd be out 24/7, because it is cooler out there, but small change doesn't know when to stop running and she overheats. I can't leave her out at night because of the stupid coyotes. One more reason to hate them.

  3. Oh yes, I'm also worried about some of the older horses. This heat is really hard on them, too.

  4. My...I don't know how you folks stand that heat and humidity. My husband was born and raised in Missouri...he says he'll never go back to that!

I'm sure they will both be fine with your excellent care.
